About Una Curran

Founder and Head Practitioner of

 Finding Your Wings wellbeing programme

A little insight to who I am and my journey..

My name is Una Curran, and the Finding Your Wings wellbeing programme grew from my many years of teaching in the UK and Ireland. This journey has been shaped not only by my professional training but, most importantly, by my experience as a parent. I’m happily married, and we have three children who all have their own unique talents and interests. Watching them grow has taught me so much, encouraging me to reflect on my own inner child and helping us all move forward together as a family.

Growing up in Wembley, I was a very anxious child who found school difficult, especially with spelling and maths. But I loved the creative arts and being imaginative. Playing teacher or nurse with my dolls was a favourite game, and though I worried about whether I’d get the grades to be a teacher, I set my heart on it. The day I stood in front of a class during my final teaching practice, knowing I had done what I set out to do, was unforgettable.

At 42, I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dyscalculia. This diagnosis helped me understand that I wasn’t stupid; I just learned in a different way. It opened my eyes to the idea that our education system often overlooks the different types of intelligence. My journey has made me passionate about helping children and adults understand and embrace their authentic ways of being.

My journey has evolved in many ways. I began as a mainstream primary school teacher in Harrow, UK, in 1998, and during those years, I was fortunate to gain a wide range of experience. I was part of the Parent & Teacher Association, served as a Teacher Governor, and was on the Senior Management Team. I even had the joy of organising Irish dancing events, including performances at the Royal Albert Hall, which brought a touch of my culture into the classroom.

However, life had more lessons in store for me. When we moved from London back to Ratoath, County Meath, to raise our children, I experienced firsthand the importance of well-being and holistic health. Meeting people like Dr. Ray Choy and Rosaleen Durkin opened my eyes to the impact of alternative therapies on physical and mental health. Over the years, I’ve adapted my approach, from teaching in classrooms to working online during lockdowns, all while continuing to grow and evolve. Each step has brought new insights and deepened my understanding of how to support families in a meaningful way.

How I differ from other practitioners...

What makes me different is the deeply personal and compassionate approach I bring to my work. Having lived through the challenges of being Dyslexic and raising neurodiverse children, I understand firsthand how important it is to honour each person’s unique way of learning. My years as a teacher, combined with holistic training and personal healing, allow me to support people in ways that feel deeply connected and meaningful.

Why work with me?

I believe in making well-being an interactive, sensory-based experience. Whether it’s through mindfulness, visual learning, or movement, my methods are tailored to meet the needs of today’s children and adults. My approach isn’t just about teaching; it’s about creating a space where people feel safe, supported, and accepted just as they are. In a world that’s increasingly fast-paced and digital, I bring a heartfelt, human touch that truly makes a difference.

My ethos and values...

When you work with me, you’ll find a welcoming and compassionate environment where you can simply be. I believe in the power of genuine human connection and the importance of feeling seen, heard, and valued. We’re human beings, not human doings, and I emphasise the need to create space in our lives to pause, breathe, and connect with ourselves and each other.

My ethos is all about nurturing authentic connections and promoting well-being in a way that feels natural and grounded. Inspired by Dr. Gabor Mate’s words that we need both attachment and authenticity, I strive to create experiences where people can feel accepted and connected. I focus on mindful practices, presence, and being in the moment, helping children and adults alike rediscover a sense of balance and inner calm.
